Excuses, excuses...

In my short teaching career, I thought I had heard darn near every excuse in the book. Here are some of my favorites (most of which come from the aural skills classroom):

  • I'm sick
  • It's just the solfege is screwing me up. I could sing it on 'la la la.'
  • I was screaming so loud at the basketball game last night that I lost my voice
  • I left my book/workbook/assignment in my dorm/car/apartment. I'll bring it to you later today/tomorrow/next class
  • I'm just so nervous.

But I think I heard the best excuse of all time on American Idol tonight:

Brandy (The last contestant in Birmingham): "Maybe it's the floor."
Simon Cowell: "Do you want to try and sing again standing on the carpet?"

Brilliant! The floor ruined my audition. If it weren't for the floor, you'd be begging me to sign with your label!

Feel free to post your favorite excuses in the "Comments."
