I am an orchestra director in the Puyallup, WA School District. I teach students in grades 5 through 12. I served on the music diversity task force. I have worked as an expert witness on trials involving rap lyrics. I am also active as a classical double bass player in the Seattle/Tacoma area.

Previously, I was a lecturer in music at the University of Washington, where I taught courses in hip hop, rock and roll, and music theory. Prior to teaching at UW, I taught at Texas Tech University. I earned a Ph.D. in music theory from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and a master's degree in music theory and a bachelor of music in double bass performance from Temple University.
